Voodoo is one of the oldest religions and one of the oldest types
of magic. Voodoo is not what is seen on television or in motion
pictures. The magic of Voodoo is stemmed from the Voodoo religion. The
Loas are the Voodoo spirits who can help or hinder magic that is being
done. It is important to understand the religion before trying your hand
at the Voodoo magic. There are literally hundreds of Voodoo Loas. It
would be impossible to serve them all. It is best to learn about the
different ones, and choose one or ones who seem to have a connection to
you. You give offerings to the Loas and in turn they will help your
magic to be successful. After serving the Loas for a while and keeping
them happy, they will do things for you without you even asking.
Voodoo is not to be taken lightly and should not be tried unless you are very serious about it. As the Loas can help make good things happen, they can also punish when they are made angry. There are many different Loas all with different personalities, likes and dislikes, and areas that they govern. For love magic, you would want a Loa of Love, like Erzulie. For money magic you might reach out to Papa Legba. Be sure to contact the correct Loa for what you are trying to accomplish. Once you begin serving a Loa, you do not want to just forget them once you get what you are after. This is a very big mistake that is made by many. You want to continue serving, giving thanks, giving offerings.
There are many different types of magic that are practiced. If you do not have an interest in Voodoo as a religion, then probably better off to either have a Voodoo practitioner do the magic for you, or perhaps choose a different type of magic. There are spellcasters who do not practice any type of religion with their magic. In Voodoo, there is no hell, or devil. The creator is to big and far away for any kind of communication with people. All communications are done with the Loas.
The best thing to do before attempting magic would be to do a bit of reading about the different kinds. Then decide if you want it to be a magic based on religion like Voodoo, Wiccan, Norse, Egyptian, etc. Or whether you would prefer to practice magic without a religion involved in it.
As for Voodoo, you do not choose Voodoo, it chooses you. If you feel drawn to it, then it is most likely chosen you. Voodoo is a very satisfying and rewarding religion and magic to be a part of.
